What you'll learn in this career training:

If you’re looking to boost your skills and build up your business savvy, this workshop series is for you! Over three separate workshops, you’ll learn how to efficiently manage a project, use a variety of creative solutions to solve problems, and understand web development fundamentals.

By the end of the series, you'll have skills that make you a stronger leader in any workplace.

Day 1: Project Management Essentials
Instructor: Sherika Wynter

If you're interested in becoming a project manager or simply want a more effective way to streamline and achieve your project goals, then this class is for you! We'll cover the fundamentals of project management, dissecting the differences between waterfall & agile project management. We'll then take a deeper dive into agile project management, highlighting best practices for proper planning and execution.

By the end of the class, you'll be equipped with the techniques and know-how to manage multiple project priorities with ease and efficiency.

Day 2: Design Thinking
Instructor: Megan Berke

Design Thinking is an approach organizations use to better understand the needs of people in order to create the most innovative and intuitive products. This creative problem-solving approach stresses the importance of empathy, focuses on the experiences of end users, and integrates an iterative process as part of the final product.

Great design doesn’t happen within the four walls of a studio or office. It happens in collaboration with people and in deep consideration of their complex needs.

This introductory workshop will cover the basics of Design Thinking by walking through the overall framework, covering integral case studies, and diving into exercises that can be immediately applied to your projects. It will explore how Design Thinking can help develop innovative solutions to complex challenges you face as business people, nonprofit leaders, entrepreneurs, and global citizens.

Day 3: Talk Like a Programmer
Instructor: Jess Bell

Learn to talk the talk without walking the walk. This class is for people who want to speak intelligently about tech. Whether you're recruiting developers, writing marketing copy, a first-time product manager, or simply want to work in a tech startup, you need to know what is happening in the engineering department.

The instructor will cover web oriented tech vocabulary from A-Z, starting with how the internet works, discussing back and front end development, talking through what an API is, and go over some of the most common acronyms. You will leave this class knowing the lingo and having a clear understanding of what it means.

Takeaways:
  • Understand the differences between two project managements practices
  • Learn ways to maximize your efficiency
  • Understand the basic framework of Design Thinking
  • Learn creative ways to generate innovative ideas
  • Understand how the internet works and the difference between front-end and back-end
  • Learn tips for communicating with developers
Prereqs & Preparation:
No prior experience or knowledge is required. This workshop series is open to anyone interested in improving their project management, problem solving, and web development skills.

School Notes:
For students enrolling in 12 week part time and immersive classes, it is not recommended that you book more than one class simultaneously.
