What you'll learn in this lecture class:

This workshop unpacks the role of the death midwife from the final breath, through the 3-day home vigil and funeral, until final disposition. It is open to professional and non-professional end-of-life caregivers and anyone wishing to care for their loved-one naturally, at home, according to personal, religious and cultural traditions.

Topics explored include:

  • after-death rites and rituals
  • legalities and logistics of a 1 to 3-day home vigil
  • the death midwife kit
  • care of the body (bathing, dressing, anointing); shrouding
  • decorating the cremation casket
  • laying the body in-honor
  • dry-ice preservation
  • completing the death-care directive
  • unexpected death and holding space in the ER from life support to death support
  • stillbirth/infant death and bringing baby home
  • and self-care for caregivers/preventing burnout
  • We will use films, meditations, written exercises and demonstrations to support the information being shared.

This program will be offered online. Sessions of all our online programs will be recorded and shared with registrants after each is completed for 90 days.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
